As the name suggests--in addition to explaining the mechanisms of sex, the ins-and-outs of sexual health, and how to find pleasure--the site also reviews sex toys. It does so while presenting a broad range of perspectives, genders, body types, and sexualities. Portraying sex acts and the use of sex toys reviewed by the couple, the comics depict trans people, people with disabilities, people of different ages and sizes, and truly all kinds of sexual pairings. If we just drew skinny, white, cisgender people, that would be inaccurate.

Creating a series of sex education comics has long been a dream for the Portland, OR, based couple.



How a tiny sex ed web comic became a thriving business
The creators of Not Your Mother's Meatloaf , a sex education comic book, realize the importance of raising awareness about infrequently talked about topics in a way that will easily and readily catch interest. Started in by Liza Bley and Saiya Miller, Not Your Mother's Meatloaf balances serious topics like consent, safe sex, and sexual health with the fun, engaging format of illustration. The theme for their upcoming third issue is "Bodies," and they are accepting submissions until May 1st.

If your sexual education was anything like mine, every few years you and your peers were rallied into crowded classrooms, separated by gender, and were schooled on the happenings of your body. By the time you were in high school, you may have been fortunate enough to receive some vague and heteronormative information about STIs and how abstinence is the best and only form of birth control. Saiya Miller and Liza Bley thought so, too, and compiled a collection of comics over the course of five years to educate others on sexuality in a far more inclusive and honest manner.
